Biographical Sketch

Dr. Paula Christensen is an Associate Professor in the College of Education at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. She teaches courses in gifted education, counseling, educational psychology and foundations, and student personnel services. She also coordinates and develops classes for the gifted education program; recruits and advises graduate student; and supervises practicum students in teaching the gifted and counseling. Dr. Christensen received her Ph.D. from The University of Iowa and her M.S. from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Dr. Christensen has many research interests, but she is particularly interested in differences in academic achievement of high ability students and counseling needs of high ability students. Recently, she has focused on the impact of technology on teaching, especially for teaching in the field of gifted education.

In previous positions, Dr. Christensen counseled gifted achieving and underachieving high school and college students. She continues to be involved in counseling and consultation with gifted individuals in her current position at Northwestern State University.
